28 species, see text Como tití (de origen onomatopéyico) se conoce a cualquier mono que pertenezca al género Callicebus, dentro de la subfamilia Callicebinae , en la que encontramos géneros extintos como Xenothrix, Antillothrix, Paralouatta, Carlocebus, Homunculus, Lagonimico y quizá Tremacebus, que estaría próxima a la familia Pitheciidae.

Mono de Sudamérica, arbóreo, diurno y colilargo (familia Callitrichidae), clasificado en dos grupos: ocho especies con colmillos cortos (caninos inferiores), llamados titíes, y 25 con colmillos largos, llamados tamarinos.

Los titíes se mueven de manera rápida y nerviosa; comen insectos y, a veces, fruta y animales pequeños. Los integrantes del género tití común Callithrix miden 15–25 cm (6–10 pulg.) de largo, sin contar la cola de 25–40 cm (10–16 pulg.). Su pelaje, tupido y sedoso, es blanco, rojizo o negruzco; sus orejas generalmente tienen un mechón de pelo. Los titíes se han usado como mascotas desde comienzos del s. XVII.
